During our hot, humid summers, you never want to find yourself without a functioning air conditioner. That’s why it’s essential to know the signs that your need AC repair in Mandeville LA.

Luckily, your AC will do just about everything it can to let you know it needs some help. These signs usually come in the form of unusual noises and sounds. Let’s go over some of these so you’ll know what they usually mean and that it’s time to schedule an appointment with our technicians.

Shrieking, Screeching, Screaming, and Grinding Noises

These noises sound like an angry and frustrated air conditioner! These ear-grating sounds are usually caused by metal-on-metal somewhere in the system.

It’s possible a fan blade has come loose and is scraping or knocking against other metal parts, resulting in the screeching noise.

It could also be caused by motor bearings that have worn down.

Another possibility is that somewhere in the system, there are metal parts that have become dirty and/or need lubrication to reduce the friction between them.

No matter the cause, these sounds warrant calling for a repair sooner rather than later. If left unchecked, things like a loose fan blade and worn-down bearings can escalate quickly and become major problems.

Hissing or Bubbling Noises

These sounds usually have to do with your AC’s refrigerant. This is the fluid in your AC that makes the cooling process possible. Without enough of it, your air conditioner can’t function properly and will eventually fail.

Depending on where the leak is in the system, you’ll either hear hissing or bubbling. Bubbling noises result when the leak is in the part of the line where the refrigerant is still in liquid form.

Not only will leaking result in your AC probably breaking down altogether, but refrigerant is also unhealthy to breathe. Be sure to call us right away if you’re hearing hissing or bubbling noises in your AC.

Clicking Noises

Clicking noises are normal when you hear them as the system starts up and cycles down. It’s when the clicking noise is persistent that you have a potential issue that needs repairs. The clicking sound could be originating from defective electrical components such as the thermostat’s inability to connect with the AC.

Clicking also occurs as a result of “hard starting.” An air conditioner is hard starting when the compressor struggles to come on and stay on. This is a sign that it’s having a hard time powering up the compressor and needs repairs ASAP.

Rattling, Clanging, and Banging

Even if a single screw has come loose in your AC, it’ll make a rattling noise. Obviously, a few loose screws or bolts are an easy fix for a professional HVAC technician. However, it can also be an indicator of something more serious.

There could be loose components that are being knocked around in the blower fan. The air handler or the fan blades themselves could be bent and knocking against something they shouldn’t be. The AC cabinet could be coming loose from the slab, or you have duct damage and that’s where the sound is coming from.

Don’t run the risk of being without your conditioner when you need it most!

When you need it done right contact Professional Heating & Air.

Luckily, your AC will do just about everything it can to let you know it needs some help.
