It’s Time to Replace Your Oil Heater

Are you getting tired of seeing that giant oil drum in your basement take up valuable space, while your heating system isn’t working as well as it should anyways? Don’t worry, you’re not the only one. Sure, you could call us for heating repair in Hammond, LA and we’d be right there to help you out, but depending on the type of system you have, repairs might be putting a band-aid on a problem that requires surgery.

The main point we’re trying to make is that homeowners in our area are more commonly starting to switch from oil-burning systems to systems that use natural gas. It’s not just a hot new fad or the result of some media campaign, there are some really great reasons to switch to this fuel type that is only going to get better in the coming years.

If you’re ready to take the next step and upgrade your system, or if you just need help with repairs, be sure to read on and give us a call.

Why Oil Heaters Might Not Be the Best Choice for Homes

Oil heating had its big boom in the United States, and you’ll still find HVAC professionals who are willing to install oil-burning systems throughout our area. It’s not uncommon to purchase a new house and find an oil drum in the basement that feeds the oil furnace. However, in terms of affordability and technology, natural gas and electric heating systems have surpassed their oil-burning cousins. Here are a few reasons why oil can be a tricky fuel source.

  • Oil requires constant delivery. You know what’s more annoying than a broken down heating system? A heating system that requires fuel delivery during the middle of a hurricane or rainstorm. Oil heaters depend on regular deliveries of oil which can be a huge burden for homeowners that don’t want to operate with this kind of scheduling.
  • Oil prices are dependant on international markets. Since we import a lot of our oil, it’s dependant on international markets. When something causes these markets to fluctuate, it could cause oil prices to rise or decrease depending on current events.
  • Oil isn’t produced locally or domestically. This is a big one. Most natural gas we use for our gas-powered heating systems is produced locally in our own municipalities. Oil is mostly imported from other countries, mainly from Canada. Local fuel sources are always more affordable and they’re supporting American industries.

Natural Gas Is a Great Alternative

Natural gas furnaces are wonderful replacements for oil-burning heating systems. They’re powerful, efficient, and they work exceptionally well for 10-15 years. As long as your home has access to a natural gas line in your local area, then you can get affordable gas heating installed in your home.
